So this might not be “news” as much as a “rant.” Call it what you will, it’s an issue as far as I’m concerned, and a pressing one at that.

James Zabiela just announced a November 8th set at Ibiza nightclub! I fell in love with this guys house/breakbeat/techno mixes after seeing Richie Hawtin at Virgin Festival and asking my trusted friend and musical mentor for similar artists. He pointed me towards, among other things, James Zabiela’s Essential Mix.

Anyways, this is GREAT NEWS, right?! Well, turns out, it presents what I’ll refer to as the Festivalgoer’s Dilemma… a phenomenon rarely experienced outside the likes of multistaged mega-festivals ala Bonnaroo, Rothbury, Coachella, when the promoters found it fit to put all three of your favorite acts of the weekend on at the same time on three different stages.

James’ Ibiza announcement puts him in direct conflict with two other DC area bangers that night. Walther Productions is hosting the second of two nights of the Grateful Dead tribute band Dark Star Orchestra at 930 Club, and Steez Promo is bringing HipHop/Electronica DJ Bassnectar to Rock’n Roll Hotel.

So I guess there are worse problems out there… I’d much rather choose between three acts I’d love to see than have to settle for no choice at all. In any case, looks like it’s going to be Zabiela for me… who’s with me?
