Knoxfest for Diabetes

Everyone hanging out in College Park this Sunday will have the opportunity of the year to kick back block-party style, enjoy some good food, and listen to some awesome live music.  What’s the best part? It’s all for a good cause.

Knoxfest, a College Park music festival of sorts, began with UMD student Mayer Kohn and his hopes to raise money for Diabetes Research and Prevention.  It has since grown into a day-long display of serious local and national talent.

Featured artists this year include EOTO,  the project of String Cheese Incident’s Jason Hann and Michael Travis; Clay Parnell, who’s performed for the thousands upon thousands of music lovers at Bonnaroo and SxSW; and Telepath, who play shows all over the country, exposing fans to their outrageous combo of back-alley bass lines, Arabic vibes and Afrobeat-influenced horns.

These bigger names will share the stage with our local favorites including Superland Stage Band, The Brakes, On The Bus, Haz, Hampsterpants and Pigeons Playing Ping Pong.

The good times can be found on Knox Road from noon to 8 p.m.  A pilgrimmage to Santa Fe thereafter will begin the evening festivities, which will last until 2:30.

Bring your frisbees, footballs and appetites for some good food and music.
