Kid Cudi’s Final Tweet

Scandal! Kid Cudi deleted his Twitter account! Follow the jump to find out why…

According to Cudi, in a blog post from ‘Dat New Cudi‘ titled ‘Why did Kid Cudi Delete his Twitter?’,

“The REAL reason i deleted twitter, in MY own words.. i wanted to keep my mind to myself again, u kno, like how it use to be. i put so much of ME into my music i gotta draw the line somewhere. plus my words fall into the wrong hands a lot. I’ll leave u with this cool quote i came up with

“Hear he, Hear he, no one shall ever get close to me, think of then and think of this, iam now the man the myth”….spread this quote to all u kno

To my fans, i do love u and ill see u at the shows and give up daps and pound when i can. sometimes shit can be crazy and i wont have time to stop and talk. with that being said dont ever think im turnin my back on u cuz id never. u never turned ur back on me and i wont forget that. everyone that has met me knows if i can stop and say wut it be, then ill stop and say wut it be…anywho, u like ME cuz im ME and this is ME taking control of my life again. THANK YOU to all who copped and supported my debut album. shit is still surreal to me but iam def on cloud 9. first weeks sales were 104,419 copies sold. iam very blessed to have so much support from all of u guys. for once in my life i finally feel important.

goodbye, i love u all sincerely. til we meet #inthesestreets
peace and love you bud,

Cud”

I know I just reviewed Cudi’s new album, and two consecutive posts on him may be borderline obsessive, but I have to say: good for Cudi. This young, soon-to be superstar reinforces his unique style of music with his outspoken views on pop-culture.

I for one am not a fan of Twitter, I think it’s a vain medium for the self-worshiping. So far we’ve seen athletes tweeting from behind closed-door practices to musicians posting backstage updates. Celebrities are exalted like Greek Gods these days, yet we seem to be worshiping them more for their anecdotes than their talent, which after all is why they became famous in the first place.

I believe that social networking sites like Twitter have disconnected, rather than connected, the fans from the artist. Twitter has done nothing but fuel the insatiable egos of these already larger-than-life personas (Kanye West anyone?) Once again it should be an issue of talent and creativity, not media-hype. The focus should be on quality music, not face time.

Kid Cudi represents an artist who understands this difference. By removing himself from the pervasive public-eye of Twitter, Cudi is reaching his fans on a much deeper level. “The Man on the Moon” is actually allowing his music to speak for himself. Perhaps Mr. West feels it necessary to crush a bottle of cognac and ruin Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at the VMA’s because 808’s and Heartbreak was a colossal disappointment, at least with respect to his previous releases.

Twitter has become a crutch; allowing artists to remain socially relevant without actually being relevant.

By deleting his Twitter, Kid Cudi is making a statement for personal privacy, but more importantly for personal and artistic integrity. Cudi said it best himself: “You like me cause I’m me, and this is me taking control of my life.” His music, not his life, is for the fans. There must be some mystery about these artists, and some thoughts kept private. Their mysterious nature is what made them so sexy in the first place. That very same privacy is what made their musical releases such a cultural occasion.

It’s about time we all remember that.
