Hall & Oates’ Bassist Dies at 58

Tom “T-bone” Wolk, bassist and music director for the famed 80’s duo Hall & Oates, died Sunday, Feb. 28, at the age of 58, in New York.Only hours after recording with Daryl Hall for Hall’s solo album, Wolk died from what was believed to be a heart attack. Most well known for his 20 years of work with Hall & Oates, Wolk was scheduled to appear with the duo last Monday night on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.” Throughout his music career, Wolk has performed with and contributed to the recordings of artists such as Bette Midler, Billy Joel, Avril Lavigne, Elvis Costello, and Carly Simon.
Wolk was the bass player in NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” house band from 1986 to 1992. Though he played the accordion as a child, he was inspired to learn guitar from the Beatles’ performance on “The Ed Sullivan Show.”
In an interview with the Recordonline.com, John Oates said,
“The ‘Heavenly Band’ just got one of the greatest multi-instrumentalists of all time and that band will from this day forward sound better than they ever have before.”
